From as far back as this paper goes we’ve had some pretty sound MLAs representing us in the Legislature in Halifax.
We recall the late Charlie MacArthur, former warden, who was a gentleman and represented us with dignity, and then there was Charlie (Lewis) MacDonald, who had spunk and wasn’t afraid to fight for his riding.
Rodney MacDonald was elected on a sunny evening, and as we talked in front of the Oran we all had good thoughts about the future of Inverness County.
Rodney was a hell of a premier and we should have had him in our dance cards for years.
But things change and we were fortunate to elect Allan MacMaster, who was a great MLA but not as great a soothsayer.
Basically we have three ridings in Inverness County and this month’s by-election on the 23rd will make it 56 members in the Legislature.
Did we need a riding dedicated to the Acadians in our county?
Well, we got one and those who will be voting will feel like they have more say in what goes on in the province.
Whatever you think about the riding, we will soon see how it works and if it works well.
Three men and one woman are in the hunt, but it would be wonderful to see more women in the traces because they have an oversupply of competent women in the Acadian region and many have experience in politics.
Do your civic duty and vote – and why not do it so you can tell your grandchildren that you voted in the riding’s first election?
Whoever wins on the 23rd, its going to change the way we think and vote in Inverness County.
We will have to be vigilant and make sure that the three ridings are working together.
We should be able to get along, but it is necessary to make sure everything works out smoothly after the 23rd.
Let’s head north to watch the new game in town and how this new game is going to change our county for good, or for bad!
