With the onset of winter and so many places closing down seasonal operations many people are left to wonder what opportunities will they have for social outings over the long and cold winter in Inverness County. Noted Foot Cape musician John R. Fontaine has a suggestion for you.
Fontaine has been giving some thought to putting together a series of shows at The Inverness Legion through the months of December through April/May called Three Chords- Key to Life.
“I’ve had this idea brewing for some time now in order to keep the music going and to keep the opportunities to play going. It’s all about the music. This seemed to be a good time to take it on. Beginning on the last Saturday of December (December 28th) from 9:00 p.m. to midnight, we’re going to begin with this series of shows at the Inverness Legion. With so many top calibre musicians in the area, I hope to have many of them as special guests at these events,” Fontaine told The Oran this week.
“The shows will take place on the last Saturday of each month. The shows will open with myself and our house band performing a one half-hour set followed by a couple of 45 minute sets from our house band and a couple of invited guests,” Fontaine added.
Fontaine says the evenings will present some traditional country music but won’t only be contained to that genre of music.
“We’re going to perform a variety of music and some of that will pertain to the special guests on the bill as well,” he said.
Fontaine says he’s already run the idea past the legion executive and they’re very much on board and welcomed the idea.
The house band for the series of shows will consist of John R. Fontaine on vocals and guitar, Cameron MacQuarrie on drums, Cecil MacQuarrie on bass, and Kevin Levesconte on fiddle and keyboards. Two special guests will be invited to perform each evening.
So, mark your calendars for the occasions and tell your friends. Let’s see as many people as possible come out and enjoy and support the shows.
“The recently renovated legion is a great venue to come out to hear music and the musicians are excited about the opportunity. We’re looking forward to playing and to performing with our special guests. We’re keeping the structure open. People will be able to dance if they wish to or they can sit back and just enjoy the shows. It will be a fun and relaxed atmosphere for both the audience and the musicians,” said Fontaine.
