Marcel LeFort, age 82 of Cheticamp, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9th, 2026 in the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Marcel was a son of the late Paul LeFort and the late Katie Mae Larade. Marcel is survived by his wife, Linda M. LeFort; and his son, Sheldon S. LeFort; brothers, Severin LeFort, Cheticamp, Pierre Paul LeFort (Bernice), Cheticamp, and Alphonse LeFort (Sylvia), Mississauga, Ont.; sister, Sylvia Poirier, Cheticamp; and half sister, Yvette Chiasson (Tommy), Cheticamp. Besides his parents, Marcel was predeceased by his sister, Emelie MacGregor, Kingarden, Ont. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026 in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Cheticamp with Father Daniel Gustave officiating. MacKinnon
Margaret Ann MacKinnon affectionally known as Nan, born October 6th, 1941, passed away peacefully in August 5th, 2026, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She leaves behind her beloved companions, Bella and Carlos, who brought her great comfort and companionship. Nan was predeceased by her devoted husband, John L. MacKinnon, as well as her mother Margret (MacLean) Campbell and father Duncan Campbell. Nan was a life long resident of Baddeck, Victoria County. She had a deep love for her home overlooking the Bras d’Or Lakes in Baddeck, where she found great joy in her gardens and the beauty of nature. An expert quilter, she poured her creativity, patience, and love into everything she made. Her quilts were not simply works of art, but expressions of love that will remain cherished. Nan will be sadly missed as she was an attentive and caring friend to all who knew her. She had a warm presence and a genuine interest in others, leaving a lasting impression on the many people whose lives she touched. Cremation has taken place. MacPherson
Beverly Anne MacPherson of Inverness, Cape Breton died peacefully surrounded by family on August 14, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on October 26, 1951. Beverly is survived by her daughter, Amber Jaye Connolly; son Michael Thomas Connolly; and their father, Michael Joseph Connolly of Tampa, Florida (formerly of Boston, MA), USA. Beverly is survived by her sister, Pauline Doucet and husband Joey Doucet of Inverness; sister, Jean MacNeil and husband Campbell MacNeil of Inverness; along with their children, Lisa and Jamie; sister, Sandra Fraser and husband, Eugene Fraser of Inverness; along with their children, Courtney, Keisha and Eugene; sister, Diana Tardif along with her children, Carmen and Danny; brother, James MacPherson and wife, Jodi along with their children, Drew and Paige; brother, Robert Corrigan along with his daughter, Rachalle; brother, Justin Corrigan along with his daughter, Samantha; and her brother, Jaycee Corrigan along with his wife, Shannon and sons, Matthew and Alexander of Boston. Beverly is also survived by Gloria MacPherson of Inverness, wife of the late Fulton MacPherson; and mother of Sharon, Debbie, Gary, Scott and the late Johnny MacPherson. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Beverly is also survived by her beloved friends, Ellen and David Hilt of Gardiner, Maine; and their children, Alison Hilt along with her daughter, Abigail, and Talia Rose, daughter of the late Gretchen Hilt-Migliaccio. Beverly lived in the United States for over 50 years before retiring to her birthplace of Inverness, Nova Scotia. She raised two children, Amber “Lamb” and Michael “Mikie”, in Boston, Massachusetts then Nashua, New Hampshire. From there she moved to various states, including Michigan, Georgia, Florida and Maine. Beverly worked in healthcare for many years followed by human resource and office administration. She enjoyed reading, decorating, crocheting and sewing, cooking and baking, gardening and crafting. Beverly was incredibly creative, she made beautiful artwork, dichroic glass pendant and wire wrap jewelry, afghan’s, patchwork quilts, hats, mittens, scarves, holiday ornaments and wreaths. She loved seashells, romance novels and movies, cooking shows and baking competitions, disco and country music. Marple
It is with heavy hearts that we announce our beloved Mom, Alice Frances (Crowdis) Marple, age 100 of North East Margaree, passed away on July 19th, 2026, at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on July 8th, 1926, to the late Frank and Hazel (Ross) Crowdis, Alice was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Alice was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Richard; her infant son, Emerson Frank; sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth Rose (Rosie): and her brother, John Edward. She is survived by her children, Milton (Bernardine), North East Margaree; Brenda (Lloyd) Ingraham, Margaree Centre; Basil (Colleen), Boucherville, Quebec; Marlene (Alfred) Gallant, North East Margaree and Ken, Toronto, Ont; grandchildren, Brendan (Danielle), Amber (Trevor), Kim (Jasen), Cyndi (Greg), Jody (Elvis), Tanya (Tamer), Sandra (Eric), Kevin (Angela), David (Michaela), Evan, Susan (Tim) and Stephen; 20 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her fur baby, her cat Sparky, who always, without fail, brought a smile to her face. Mom was a wonderful Mother and Nan, she had a way of making each one of us feel special. She was happiest when the little ones were visiting and she could get a hug from them. Alice was a member of Wilson United Church, Margaree Centre and a lifelong member of the UCW (United Church Women) Group. She worked for Statistics Canada for 15 years, was a cook at the Normaway Inn, and also worked at the Cape Breton Heritage Museum, where she perfected her weaving skills. Mom’s abilities were many and varied. She was a seamstress, a baker (her blueberry pie and oatcakes were favorites) and an accomplished artist (her paintings can be found across the country). Never shy to try a new craft, she took a woodworking class and tried tole painting more than once. Mom rarely sat without some type of handiwork in her hand and passed her “free” time knitting, quilting, crocheting, and embroidering. Mom had a green thumb and took great pride in her vegetable garden and pleasure tending her flowers both indoors and out. The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Patricia Ghattas, who gave Mom tender loving care these past few months, and to the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their professionalism and care of Mom during her short illness and their kindness and care to the family, which made a difficult time easier. We also want to express our thanks to Marlene and Alfred, who moved in with Mom 12 years ago. Their care and support to Mom made it possible for her to remain in her home and gave all of us peace of mind knowing that Mom was well cared for. Visitation for the late Alice Frances Marple will be held Friday, August 21st, 2026, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in Wilson United Church Hall, Margaree Centre. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Alice Frances Marple will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. in Wilson United Church with Rev. Alicia Cox officiating. Interment will take place in the Congregational Cemetery, Margaree Centre. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Alice may be made to Wilson United Church or a charity of choice. Romard
Judy Romard, age 98, Foyer Pére Fiset, Cheticamp, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026. Judy was the daughter of the late Julitte (Deveaux) LaPierre. Judy was born and raised in Cheticamp before moving to Ontario to work. It was in Toronto where she met up with an old acquaintance from Cheticamp, Wilfred Romard. After a brief courtship, Judy and Wilfred married and moved to Bowmanville, Ontario where they built a life that included the birth of their two sons, Mark and Victor. Judy and Wilfred retired to Cheticamp. After Wilfred’s passing, Judy remained in Cheticamp where she enjoyed voluteering and the company of friends and family. She passed peacefully after a long and happy life. Judy is survived by her children, Victor (Jennifer) and Mark (Janet); grandchildren, Joseph, Katherine (Ben), Samuel, and Jackson; and great grandson, Mackenzie. Besides her mother, Judy was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred; and her brother, Cyril Joe Chiasson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10th, 2026 in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Daniel Gustave officiating. Shaw
Jerry Mary Shaw, beloved wife of Edward, passed away on August 9th, 2026, age 90. Jerry was born in Hamilton, Ontario, October 10th, 1935, where she lived until 1977 when she and Edward moved to Margaree Valley. Jerry and Edward shared 58 loving years together. In addition to Edward, Jerry leaves behind her children, Joanne, Debbie, Chucky, Jackie, and Donna, as well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Edward would like to thank the staff of home care and Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital staff for the wonderful care Jerry received to the very end of her life. Cremation has taken place. As per her wishes, there will be no service.
