ELLISON

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Ellison who left this world peacefully and surrounded by love on June 20th, 2026. She was 94 years old. Mary was a woman of quiet strength, deep kindness, and a sense of humor that touched many lives. Born in Inverness, Cape Breton on September 7th,1931, to Jim Angus MacIsaac and Margaret MacNeil. Mary was a longtime resident of Inverness. She was a member of Stella Maris Parish Inverness. Known for her great sense of humor and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need, she formed many cherished friendships during her years in Inverness and these connections remained meaningful throughout her life. During her brief illness, it became abundantly clear how many lives she had touched. As a mother of three (Mary Alice Ellison predeceased at birth) she created a home filled with warmth and security for her two children Jamie and Marilyn. Her stories, warmth, and sense of humor created memories her family will carry forever. Mary embraced life and was predeceased by her brother, Francis MacIsaac; and sisters, Josie Doucet, Rosalia Beaton, Muriel MacDonald, Camilla Tompkins,and Regina MacIsaac. She is survived by her sister, Rita Gillis; and her brother, James (Chris) MacIsaac; her children, Jamie (Dianne) and Marilyn (Gerry). Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life lived with purpose. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will continue in the laughter she shared, the traditions she passed down, and the many lives she enriched. Thank you to the staff of the Inverary Manor and Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held in Stella Maris Church, Inverness on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. with funeral mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. McBRINE

Kenneth Wayne “Ken” McBrine, age 86 of Falmouth, passed away in Mayflower Meadows, Windsor on Sunday, June 14th, 2026.  Born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, he grew up in North East Margaree, Cape Breton and moved to Ontario in early adulthood. Ken is survived by his wife of 23 years, Beth (Morse); his three sons, Aaron Hanson, Toronto; Nicholas (Sarah Faulkner) Hanson and grandchildren, Soren and Sabina, Toronto; and Matthew (Krista Van Gaal) Hanson and grandchildren, Connor and Kataryna, Richmond, ON; as well as Beth’s sons, Joel Fowler, Moncton, and Nathan Fowler, Vancouver. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Ruth McBrine; brother, Richard “Dick” and wife, Marion and their son, Rick; and Ken’s other brother, John. Ken had a large extended family, many of whom he had a close relationship with. Special mention goes to Dick and Marion’s children, Debbie (Michael), daughter-in-law, Laurie (late Rick), Wayne (Rose), and Robert, all of Ontario. When Ken and Beth were married, he was welcomed into the large Morse family which includes, Larry, Bowen Island, BC; Martha Stewart (Tony), Wolfville; Tim (Heather), West Brooklyn; Eric (late Claire) South Berwick; and Adam (Sheri) Calgary, AB, and their families. He enjoyed being a part of the family and loved supporting the nieces and nephews by attending their sporting activities and endeavours. Throughout his career in sales, which he loved, he had the opportunity to see most of Canada and enjoyed living and experiencing life in various cities and towns across the country. Ken really enjoyed meeting new people and he would be the first person to lend a hand with any projects that presented themselves. His favourite place was on Cape Breton Island, namely, North East Margaree, where he was proud to show off the Island and to take his “mainland” friends to his best-loved fishing hole. A special thank you to the wonderful team of caregivers including Dr. Iona Wile and Dr. Cathryn Smith at Mayflower Meadows in Windsor. They always made sure Ken was comfortable and cared for as his dementia progressed and at the same time, the Mayflower Meadows family was very supportive to Beth in helping her navigate this difficult time of life. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 29th, in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Jackson Dunn officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to a charity of one’s choice. RICHARD

Mary Cloran Richard, October 10th, 1925 ~ June 17th, 2026 (age 100): It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Mary C. Richard at Andrews of Stratford, PEI, in her 101st year. Mary made her home over the years in Dartmouth, NS, and across Prince Edward Island, in Cardigan, Grandview, and Parkdale, before settling at Andrews of Stratford. Mary had a lifelong love of music, dancing, and travel. A regular at ceilidhs in PEI and Cape Breton, she could always be found in the front row enjoying her favourite entertainers. Mary was predeceased by her husband, John Cecil Richard, as well as her brothers Monty, Alex, Lloyd, Alfred, and sisters Anne and Mary Theresa. She will be missed by Preston MacLeod as well as several nieces and nephews. No visitation by personal request. A mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, June 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Parish. A private burial will be held after the service.
