Charlie LeFort isn’t getting older, he’s getting better.

Well, competing in the Senior Master Male category now might mean he is older, but it didn’t stop the veteran road racer from adding another overall victory to his list of accomplishments at the 34th Annual Alfred Reynolds Memorial 5-miler on Saturday.

There were 42 runners entered in the Port Hood race, and 30 of them were younger than LeFort, including Kirk MacLean who led for half the race.

But at the turnaround at Sandeannie’s Restaurant in Harbourview, LeFort’s measured strides had reeled in MacLean. Finish times were not available.

Holly Wood, who competes in the Female 30-39 division, was the fastest female and finished sixth overall.

MacLean took the Open Male division, followed by Kyle (Duke) MacDonald and Lance Hawley.

Brittany MacDonald was the top Open Female runner, with Nicole Van Zutphen and Jacqueline MacDonald chasing her in.

Travis Goswell won the Juvenile Male division, ahead of Luke Van Zutphen.

And Kelly MacInnis won the Juvenile Female division.

Steven Lauchlan, who finished third overall, was the top male in the 30-39 division. Joel Harrison-Off was second.

There were eight competitors in the Female 30-39, with Tracy Beaton taking the division behind race-winner Holly Wood. Rounding out the field: Dayna MacDonald, Chantel Hawley, Melinda MacDonald, Cindy MacDonald, Alison Burrell, and Angie MacDonnell.

Donald Holder, with a fifth-place finish overall, won the Master Male division. Runners-up included Kevin Goswell, Dwayne MacDonnell, Troy MacInnis, and Francis Morris.

It was Frank’s first-ever race, in response to a challenge from his kids. And that’s why dads are number one.

The top Master Female was Sharon Manson. She was the fastest of six in the division, including: Alexis MacDonald, Mindy Zwicker, Citaulet Stanton, Jacalyn Leero, and Natalie MacLean.

David MacDonell was the top Senior Master Male to finish behind overall race winner Charlie LeFort. Stanley MacLean was third.

Coline MacEachern won the Senior Master Female division, ahead of Sheila MacDonell, Bea Sutherland,  Maureen Sullivan, and Lois Beaton-McNamara.

The top Golden Master Male was John MacDonald, who came in ahead of Frank X. Short and Gabriel MacIsaac.

And Georgie Gillis, competing in her 30th Alfred Reynolds Memorial, was 18th overall and won the Golden Master Female division.
