Letter: No better place than here

Dear Editor,
Many would say that having no direct family here in Cape Breton might well be detrimental to a full recovery if one was to suffer a medical emergency or an illness. However, as a transplanted ex-Brit who recently had the misfortune to fall foul of the coronavirus, I can honestly state that this is definitely not the case. How or where I caught it during my recent trip to the UK, I will never know. But what I do know is that when suffering from a debilitating illness, there is no better place to be than here.
So, first of all, to all the medical staff of both Inverness and Sydney hospitals, and especially my main contacts, Holly and Tanya, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your exceptional care. To my wonderful neighbours, friends and folks I both know and in some cases, hardly know, who dropped meals and food off on my patio, called, messaged, said prayers or in any way encouraged my recovery, I am extremely grateful.
I am now fully recovered and enjoying life both inside and outside my house.
I have been fortunate in my travels, but there is nowhere in the world where such friendship, care, kindness and concern are offered so freely. I know, they call that the Cape Breton way.
