Retired Deputy Chief Carol Anne Mac Innis of West Bay Road and District Volunteer Fire Department

-by April MacDonald
Our volunteer firefighters are truly the unsung heroes of our rural communities.
Colton LeBlanc, MLA, Argyle, is the minister of Service NS and Internal Services, Public Service Commission, and Acadian Affairs.
LeBlanc made the recent announcement regarding a well-deserved recognition of our volunteer firefighters who have retired.
The Registry of Motor Vehicles has developed a new Retired Volunteer Firefighter License Plate that recognizes retired volunteer firefighters with at least 15 years of service.
The plate features the same “FD” logo as the Volunteer Firefighter License Plate and the words “Retired Volunteer Firefighter” at the bottom.
As of February 17th, the Retired Volunteer Firefighter License Plate is available from any Access Nova Scotia or Registry of Motor Vehicles Office.
The first to get the new plate was none other than Retired Deputy Chief Carol Anne Mac Innis of the West Bay Road and District Volunteer Fire Department.
Alerting the media was her proud daughter Jennifer MacInnis.
The retired deputy received the new NS retired volunteer firefighter plate from Access Nova Scotia in Port Hawkesbury when they became available on February 17th.
The West Bay Road and District VFD is a Small Rural Volunteer Fire Department with two fire apparatus and utility. They have one pumper, one tanker, one fire/rescue unit. They currently have approximately 30 volunteer members who are dedicated to serving their community around the clock – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Retired Volunteer Firefighter License Plate is issued in sequential order to passenger vehicles (like cars and station wagons) and light commercial vehicles up to 5,000 kg (like trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans).
Government is recognizing the invaluable contribution retired volunteer firefighters and ground search and rescue members have made to their communities with special license plates.
Those members who have at least 15 years of experience are eligible for the new license plates – which are now available at all Access Nova Scotia Centres and Registry of Motor Vehicle offices.
There’s no registration fee for a Retired Volunteer Firefighter License Plate if you provide a completed Application for Retired Volunteer Firefighter Plates or Retired Ground Search and Rescue Plates when you apply.
The application form needs to be certified by a chief or deputy chief of the volunteer fire station.
There is no cost for future renewals.
The cost of replacing a lost or stolen Retired Volunteer Firefighter License Plate is $5.80.
Insurance information is required each time a vehicle registration (plate) is issued or renewed. A Statement of Insurance form must be completed for in-person and mail requests. For online renewal requests, you will be asked to provide this information electronically.
Congratulations to the retired deputy chief of the WBR&DVFD and thank you for your 27 years of service and dedication to your community!
