Letter: In defense of councillor Blair Phillips

April 3,  2024

Dear Editor,

In the March 20th issue of The Oran, Evelyn Leblanc of Belle Cote, wrote a letter complaining about our municipal councillor, Blair Phillips.
My intent in writing this letter is to defend the conduct of our councillor.
He was very helpful when, on the advice of Nova Scotia Power, I contacted him to ask for his assistance. According to the Power Corporation, only the owner of the property can request changes to the direction of a spotlight. However, the power corporation suggested that I ask my councillor if he could intervene on my behalf.
When I consulted with Mr. Phillips and gave my location, he knew immediately which spotlight I was complaining about. Within a few days, he drove to the property, spoke with my neighbour and phoned to give me a report. He added the caveat that although they seemed reasonable, he did not have the power to make them act upon my complaint should they choose to do nothing. He was very cordial and professional.
Regrettably, to date, the neighbour has not changed the direction of this high power beam. It’s like living above an airport.
